Common Support Questions

Below are some common support questions we're asked. For a more detailed explanation of the setup & configuration of your hosting account, see our full Support Website.

 

Your Irish Domains Control Panel is located at https://cp.irishdomains.com. Login using the username & password you set up when registering with Irish Domains or as subsequently provided.

You can also access your Control Panel from the main site menu above. Select "Client Login" and then "Control Panel Login" 

The Control Panel login offers a "Forgot Password" option. Click on this link to have your access details automatically resent to you.

Create the email account

To create a new email account:-

  1. Login to your Control Panel
  2. Select "Hosting" from the Top Menu
  3. Select "Email" from main display area or Left Hand Menu
  4. Select "E-mail addresses" from main display area or Left Hand Menu

To create a new email address, select the "Add New E-mail Address" button and complete the form as required.

Setting up on your local computer

Depending on the Email software you're going to use, the location and exact terms required for setting up your email will vary from product to product. However, the main pieces of information required will be the same. These are displayed on the main Email page within your Control Panel. (See Create Email Account tab)

  • POP3 Server  - see details on email page
  • SMTP Server - see details on email page (requires Authentication enabled)
  • Username -  your email address)
  • Account Password - as set by you when creating the email account (viewable within your email account settings)

Setup details for Common Email Programs:

Microsoft Outlook
Microsoft Outlook Express

Your FTP information is available within your Control Panel.

  • Login to your Control Panel
  • Select "Hosting" from the Top Menu
  • Select "Web Space" from main display area or Left Hand Menu
  • Select "FTP Access" from main display area or Left Hand Menu

  • You can change the Nameservers on any of your registered domains through your Control Panel.

  • Login to your Control Panel
  • Select "Billing" from the Top Menu
  • Click on "Domain Management" in main display area or "My Domains" in Left Hand Menu
  • Select by clicking on the domain you wish to change
  • Under the "Nameserver" section, click on "Manage Nameserver" button
  • Change nameserver information as required & Click "Update DNS info to Registrar" button to complete
  •  

    Note: For .ie domains, the domain MUST be configured on the new nameservers before making the changes above.

    Login to your Control Panel at https://cp.irishdomains.com/ with your Irish Domains username and password.

    • Click on “My Subscriptions
    • Click on “Free Domain Parking
    • Click on “Switch Plan” and select the appropriate service plan from the list of available options
    • Select the appropriate period and place the order

    Depending on the parking or hosting package that is running on your domain, the Qmail Mail Service may be installed on the domain. If Qmail is installed, it must be removed before new MX records are added to the domain.

     

    To check if Qmail is installed.

    Login to your Control Panel and navigate to the Domain Administration area:-

    1. Select "Hosting" from Top Menu
    2. Select "Domain Overview"  then "Domain Administration" to view a list of your active domains
    3. Under the list of domains, Qmail will appear under "Mail Hosting" if installed for a domain.
    4. Within the Domain Administration section, select the domain from the list by clicking on the domain name.

     

    Removing Qmail

    1. Under "Mail Hosting" - "Mail Hosting Type" will display Qmail  if installed.
    2. Select "Remove hosting" to remove the Qmail mail hosting system.

     

    Inserting new MX records

    Within the Domains Administration Area, select the "DNS" tab

    Select "DNS Records" from the sub-menu below

    1. Click on "Add New DNS Button"
    2. Select type: MX and click "Next"
    3. Complete as follows:
      • Mail Domain: leave blank unless setting MX record for a sub domain
      • Select Preference as required (low number=high preference)
      • Mail Exchanger: enter your new MX record  ( this must be a host name, not an IP)
      • Select "Finish" to complete

     

    Adding a New A record

    If your MX record requires a new local A record to be set up (i.e. the MX hostname is a new sub-domain on the same domain, then a new A record should be set up as follows:

    1. Click on "Add New DNS Button"
    2. Select type: "A" and click "Next"
    3. Enter sub-domain name
    4. Enter IP address
    5. Select "Finish" to complete

    Your new MX records are now set up.

     

    Login to your Control Panel and navigate to the Domain Administration area:-

    1. Select "Hosting" from Top Menu
    2. Select "Domain Overview"  then "Domain Administration" to view a list of your active domains
    3. Within the Domain Administration section, select the domain from the list by clicking on the domain name

     

    Under the “Summary” tab, the domain current setup details will be displayed.

    In the “Web Hosting” section of this page, click on “remove hosting” to remove the parking hosting. With this removed, you can now set up new DNS records as required.

    To repoint your domain’s WWW record at a new Address record (IP Address) or CNAME record (hostname), select the “DNS” tab and “DNS Records” link beneath. 

    1. Click on  “Add New DNS Record” button , and select the required DNS record type from the drop down box.
    2. Select "Next" and add the new record details as required.
    3. Select “Finish” to complete.

    Note: DNS changes may take up to 3 hours to fully propagate.
